Majority of Scottish universities report financial deficit

Nine of Scotland’s 15 universities reported a deficit in their most recent annual accounts, research by HE has revealed.

Robert Gordon University reported the biggest deficit for 2017-18, at £11.1 million, followed by the University of Dundee (£8.1m) and Glasgow Caledonian University (£7.7m), according to figures from their financial statements. 

Six other Scottish institutions made a loss of between £1.7m and £5.4m, the HE analysis shows.
