The 1994 Group of small research-led universities requests more state support for those working towards higher degrees.
High-achieving postgraduate students should have access to state-provided tuition fee loans, according to the 1994 Group of 11 research-led universities. In a report published today it proposes possible solutions to what it calls a “postgraduate crisis”.
It notes a declining number of students gaining access to financial support for postgraduate study. The number of research council funded students has more than halved over the past decade, with much of the fall coming in the past year. Industry funding also fell by 10 percent between 2010 and 2011.
