Oxford vote to no-platform Steve Bannon fails

Members of the Oxford Union voted down a proposal to block Steve Bannon from speaking at the union, HE understands.

Bannon, who served in president Donald Trump’s administration in the United States until August 2017 and co-founded the right-wing website Breitbart News, spoke at an event hosted by the University of Oxford’s debating society, the Oxford Union, on 16 November despite significant protest.

A source confirmed to HE that an emergency vote to withdraw Bannon’s invitation was held by members of the Oxford Union on 15 November, but the motion failed. As a result, Bannon spoke at the debating society as planned.
