100 staff voted to keep the £75 levy, with only 50 voting to drop it

On 10 March members of the university’s congregation—the institution’s sovereign body—debated a resolution calling for the abolition of any payment by the 2024-2025 academic year. The vote that followed saw fees for postgraduate applications retained by a majority of 2 to 1.

“We’re disappointed, but we will continue to push on this issue and we’ll be looking to take this matter to a postal vote [involving absent staff] in the coming weeks,” PhD student and campaigner Benjamin Fernando told Research Professional News. “We’re incredibly pleased to have had so much support both from inside and outside the Oxford community.”
