Growing pressure on private firms and universities to refund rent during lockdown
Private accommodation firm Unite Students has offered its renters a 50 per cent discount during lockdown, as pressure grows on other providers to follow suit.
Unite Students, which has accommodation across the UK, announced on 11 January that it has offered students a 50 per cent discount on rent between 18 January and 14 February, as well as a cost-free, four-week tenancy extension at the end of the academic year, so that students “can finish any studies, carry on with part-time work, or enjoy summer in your university city”.
