First-year students showed slightly higher levels of common disorders than non-students in government-backed research
Research published by the Department for Education has found that symptoms of anxiety and depression are slightly higher among first-year students than their peers who did not go to university.
A study published on 28 June and written by Claire Callender, Tayla McCloud and Gemma Lewis of University College London found that students who started higher education in 2018-19 had “a small increase in their risk of common mental disorders” versus those who were not in higher education.
