Proportion of student loans written off holds steady

Government data again puts write-off figure for full time students at 53 per cent

The proportion of student loans taken out by full-time learners in 2020-21 that are expected to be written off has remained at 53 per cent for a second year running.

Government figures published on 24 June showed that 53 per cent of loans taken out by full time higher education students will ultimately be paid back by taxpayers, the same as in 2019-20. In 2018-19, the write-off rate was 47 per cent.
