The age of the student

The Teaching Excellence Framework is in danger of becoming part of the government’s attempt to attract young voters.

He operates in what he calls “the age of the student”. He is the self-declared “minister for students”. And his job so far, it seems, has been to help the government win the hearts and minds of the student voters who so unceremoniously dumped them at last year’s general election.

It’s not very subtle. Sam Gyimah has even created his own hashtag, #SamOnCampus, which has now been used in hundreds of slightly sickly tweets from universities in Birmingham, Manchester, Canterbury and Bournemouth, where the minister for universities and science has been talking to and even filming students, asking them what he should do.
