Degree apprenticeships are not yet delivering. Here’s what needs to happen by next year’s National Apprenticeship Week.

The aim of a recent Higher Education Commission inquiry into policy surrounding degree apprenticeships, which I co-chaired, was to spot emerging challenges and make recommendations to address them. It was clear from every evidence session we held that degree apprenticeships were seen by employers and providers as a valuable and vital part of the UK’s skills pathway and a potentially great contribution to boosting productivity, but that they were not yet delivering to their full potential.

A month on from the publication of our report, Degree Apprenticeships: Up to standard?, and with National Apprenticeship Week kicking off tomorrow, here are my own, personal thoughts on what needs to happen next.
