Welsh governors told to improve after ‘past failings’

University leaders agree to improvement charter after report highlights governance issues

Welsh universities have been told to acknowledge “past failings” and overhaul their governance structures in a review that concluded recent problems had “shaken confidence” in leadership.

In the review, commissioned by members of Universities Wales and published on 19 February, report author and former chair of governors at the University of West England Gillian Camm said there was “growing impatience with the sector at UK level”, and that “recent governance issues have fuelled the desire to see change” in the way universities are run.
