African scientists tell their story of winning grants from the Trust
Applying for an international grant requires resilience and persistence. This is a lesson that Mark Rweyemamu from Tanzania learnt when he joined forces with a UK researcher to submit a proposal for a Wellcome Trust strategic grant.
The proposal was for a pilot study on health for a Southern African Centre for Infectious Disease Surveillance (SACIDS). The project, which began taking shape in 2005, would group academic and research institutions involved with infectious diseases of humans and animals.
