SKA increases cost estimates and staff levels

The estimated cost for the first phase of construction of the Square Kilometre Array telescope should be increased to €400 million (US$530m), the project’s board of directors has agreed.

At a meeting at their UK headquarters on 30-31 January, the directors of the SKA organisation agreed that the 2007 cost estimate of €350m should be increased to take account of inflation.
