US$60m HIV study launched

A study to evaluate whether combining HIV management strategies could improve their efficacy was launched in South Africa this month.

The Population Effects of Antiretroviral Therapy to reduce HIV Transmission (PopART) will study communities in South Africa and Zambia. It will see whether house-to-house HIV counselling and testing, combined with earlier antiretroviral therapy, can cut infection rates in a community.
