Australian grants fund research in Africa

Australia’s chief development agency has provided US$10.3 million to 18 research projects focusing on Africa. The release of the funding was announced on 15 February.

Researchers from universities across Australia are leading the 18 projects, which are being funded through the Australian Development Research Awards, a competitive grant scheme run by Australian Aid. Fourteen of the projects have African academic partners.

Winners include a collaborative project between Murdoch University and Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. The project will assess whether government efforts to improve villagers’ access to water in Nampula, a province in Mozambique, have been successful.
