Budget boost for Square Kilometre Array

The government of South Africa allocated R1.1 billion (US$120 million) to the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope in its 2013/14 budget, published on 27 February.

Part of the allocation will be used to construct MeerKat, a 64-dish antennae radio telescope, which is a precursor to the SKA that South Africa will co-host with Australia.
