Canadian aid agency merges with ministry

A Canadian development agency seeking to end poverty in developing countries has ceased to exist as an individual entity. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is now part of the new government department of foreign affairs and international trade.

The move will “enhance coordination of international assistance with broader Canadian values and objectives” and “put development on equal footing with trade and diplomacy”, said Julian Fantino, the minister of international cooperation, in a statement on 21 March.
