South Africa reconstitutes CSIR board

The South African government is reconstituting the board of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research ahead of the expiry of the current board's term in December.

Lunga Ngqengelele, a Department of Science and Technology spokesperson, says: “By law we have to start calling for nominations from the members of the public, to be considered and adjudicated upon by an esteemed panel. The panel then makes recommendations to minister [Naledi Pandor].”

Engineer Francis Petersen chairs the 11-member board, which includes Eugene Cloete from Stellenbosch University and Tebello Nyokong from Rhodes University.
