First Tanzanian wins Royal Society Pfizer award

Julie Makani, a researcher at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania, has won this year’s UK-based Royal Society’s Pfizer award for African researchers.

She receives about US$ 95,000 to finance her research into anaemia and sickle cell disease. She also won about US$ 8,000 for her personal use.
