JKUAT builds assembly line to spur laptop innovation

Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is in the process of installing a multipurpose assembly line for electronic devices to spur research and innovation.

The plant is expected to be operational by September, vice-chancellor Mabel Imbuga said during the rollout of the Taifa (Swahili for ‘national’) laptop brand for the Kenyan market at a Nairobi hotel on 12 June.

Taifa is the result of a collaboration between the university, through its Nairobi Industrial and Technology Park, 45 kilometres east of Nairobi, and Chinese international IT firm Inspur.
