Kenya’s education, science and technology ministry wants university vice-chancellors to adhere to national minimum standards when appointing and promoting academic staff within their institutions, the cabinet secretary for education has said.
Speaking on 28 May during a consultative meeting with managements of universities and academic unions, Jacob Kaimenyi said harmonisation of appointments and promotion criteria would stop lecturers from migrating to universities with lax criteria.
The country’s Commission for University Education has developed standards for academic appointments that were approved by both public and private universities last year.
