The Uganda Virus Research Institute has received laboratory equipment valued at 2.6 billion Uganda shillings (US$725,000) from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to a 30 May notice on the UVRI website, the donation will help equip the institute’s national HIV/Aids reference, testing and surveillance laboratory based at Makerere University.
According to Pontiano Kaleebu, UVRI director, who received the equipment on behalf of the institute, the apparatus will help build capacity for staff in HIV research.
