Controversy over Uganda’s National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill has again delayed its adoption.
President Yoweri Museveni’s government wants the bill passed so it can regulate the use of technologies like genetic modification. But on 5 July the National Assembly postponed its scheduled debate.
Deputy speaker Joseph Oulanyah said the move was designed to allow for “consultations”, the daily New Vision reported. The nature of the consultations is not clear.
