The University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom will lead a £7.7 million (US$10.2m) project to integrate human and animal health research in the conflict-ridden Horn of Africa.
The One Health Regional Network for the Horn of Africa project will work with partners in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, to train scientists and conduct research on the interface between the environment, humans and livestock.
It will draw on local capacity, including the Nairobi-based Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute hub in Nairobi, Addis Ababa University, the University of Asmara in Eritrea and Somalia’s IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School.
