Uganda and Chinese firm in row over fisheries research centre

The Ugandan government has reportedly “repossessed” a US$5 million fisheries research centre developed by a Chinese firm, allegedly over disagreement related to contractual terms.

At the centre of the row is Kajjansi Aquaculture Research and Development Centre, an aquaculture demonstration, research, fish- and feed-producing centre. The Ugandan government commissioned the Chinese firm to upgrade the centre in 2008.

But according to the New Vision newspaper the Huaqiao Fenghuang Group refused to hand over the facility when work was completed three years ago.
