Uganda launches pig breeding research programme

A Ugandan pig genetics programme launched in July aims to breed genetically ‘superior’ pigs to increase earnings for pig farmers in the country.

The three-year project will see Uganda’s National Animal Genetic Resource Centre Databank working with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria under the leadership of the Nairobi-based International Livestock Research Institute.

Funding for the project comes from the Austrian Development Agency, a government-funded aid organisation.
