Hollywood star funds expansion of Kenyan mangrove project

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, bankrolled by the eponymous Hollywood star, has given US$50,000 to expand mangrove protection along Kenya’s coast.

The project is run by the Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland together with the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. It seeks to restore mangrove forests along the Indian Ocean coastline to protect local communities from the ill-effects of deforestation.
