Confusion as Kenyan court reinstates suspended Egerton VC

Confusion surrounds the leadership of Kenya’s Egerton University after a court last week reinstated suspended vice-chancellor Rose Mwonya with instructions that she resume office immediately.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court in the Rift Valley town of Nakuru reinstated Mwonya and instructed acting vice-chancellor Alexander Kahi, who was appointed after Mwonya’s suspension in September, to vacate the office.

Mwonya was suspended by the university’s management council over allegations of financial and procurement malpractices. However, on 18 October the court ordered Kahi to hand over duties to Mwonya, the Daily Nation reported.
