Funding secured for disease centre in Mandera

The county of Mandera in northern Kenya has committed KSh500 million (US$5m) towards the creation of a medical research centre.

The Centre for Disease Control Mandera County will be created in partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute.

The county has also donated 100 acres of land to the centre, the establishment of which was delayed by security problems in the county which neighbours Somalia and Ethiopia.
