New head for Ford Foundation’s Johannesburg office

The Ford Foundation has appointed Achmat Dangor to head its office in southern Africa.

Dangor, a human rights advocate, takes over from Uganda-born Peter Takirambudde, who has been heading the Johannesburg-based office since September 2011.

Dangor will start in July as the second African to head the office, which provides grants to institutions researching human rights, economic fairness, democratic and accountable government, and the development of higher education.
