An international tropical diseases research and training programme is extending its funding priorities to study why new drugs and diagnostic tools fail to reach intended users.
The scientific committee of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) approved the research area on 20 March.
“There are new diagnostic tools and drugs that we know work, but are not being used. This is why we are working in partnerships with ministries of health to do implementation research to find out what are the barriers preventing the use of these drugs or diagnostic tools,” says Jamie Guth, the TDR’s communications manager.
