The United States Senate confirmed Mark Green, a previous ambassador to Tanzania, as the head of the US Agency for International Development on 3 August.
Green was nominated by president Donald Trump in May, generating rare enthusiasm from stakeholders after a string of controversial science appointments by the administration.
“Mark will help us prioritise America’s future development investments to ensure every tax dollar advances our country’s security and prosperity and brings us closer to the day when foreign assistance is no longer needed,” said Wade Warren, USAID acting head, in a statement.
