The United Kingdom has funded 12 ‘global research hubs’ to tackle complex development challenges, nine of which will have an element of geographical focus on Africa.
The hubs all have UK-based lead institutions. In the next five years the hubs will work with governments, international agencies, NGOs and community groups in target regions to “provide creative and sustainable solutions to help make the world safer, healthier and more prosperous”, reads a statement from UK Research and Innovation published on 10 December.
The hubs are funded by the UK’s Grand Challenges Research Fund, which aims to bolster UK research collaboration with the rest of the world.
