Africans dominate Fogarty LMIC young researcher grants

South Africa dominates grant round while Nigeria and Tanzania are runners-up

African researchers have won the bulk of new funding from the United States’ National Institutes of Health aimed at boosting the career prospects of young health researchers in low- and middle-income countries.

The Fogarty International Center announced the winners of its Emerging Global Leader Awards on 17 October. Eleven of the 14 winners are based in Africa. Each researcher wins around US$100,000.
