Trump ally likely to head World Bank

A staunch ally of United States president Donald Trump is likely to be the next president of the World Bank.

The bank announced on 14 March that it had received only one nomination for the presidency. This nomination, made by Trump, was for David Malpass, an economist in the Trump administration.

Lebanon had previously nominated Ziad Hayek, but later withdrew his name, leaving Malpass’ election uncontested.
