Global funding for the HIV/Aids response in low- and middle-income countries has flatlined and is sitting at about the same level as a decade ago, a report has found.
The report says that donor governments spent US$8 billion in 2018, US$100 million less than in 2017. This is “little changed” from the US$7.8bn they spent in 2008, before which time funding grew rapidly, it says.
The report was compiled by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/Aids. It was released on 16 July, the day that UNAIDS’ Global Aids Update was launched in Eshowe, South Africa.
