Facebook looks to spend US$2m on misinformation R&D

Social media giant welcomes proposals that include developing regions, including Africa

Facebook has announced it will spend US$2 million on research into how social media technologies can be used for misinformation and polarisation, with a special focus on developing regions.

The funding announced on 24 February is open to researchers based at recognised academic institutions or non-governmental organisations anywhere in the world.
