Mauritius has been selected to host the southern campus of the Pan-African University, putting an end to years of wrangling between countries in the region over its siting.
Education ministers from the Southern African Development Community agreed to give the campus to the Indian Ocean island state during a meeting in Maputo, Mozambique, on 19 September.
The Mauritius campus will train postgraduate students and carry out research in space sciences, to tie in with southern Africa’s hosting of the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope.
