The African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics has issued its second call for health research institutions to be designated as centres of excellence.
The scheme is not a funding call, but rather a form of recognition for health research institutions that will raise their regional and global profiles.
The first call was announced in 2011, and awarded centre of excellence status to 32 institutions. Southern Africa houses 15 of the centres, of which 12 are in South Africa. West Africa got eight, East Africa six, and North Africa four.
