African Academy of Sciences elects governing board

The Nairobi-based African Academy of Sciences has elected a fresh 15-member governing council, to be headed by a winner of the African Union's Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Award in February.

New member Felix Dakora based in South Africa will lead the council for the next three years. He joins six other new members on the board.

Another six members were re-elected or elected to a new position. The previous president, Aderemi Kuku from Nigeria, and Tom Kariuki, the director of the Kenya-based Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa, take up the remaining two positions.
