A group of leaders from the world's 20 largest economies have called for the creation of an international research hub to combat antimicrobial resistance.
The leaders of the G20 countries met in Hamburg, Germany, on 7-8 July. South Africa is the only African member of the group.
The proposed hub would do basic and applied research both into improving current antibiotics and discovering new ones. It comes as many countries are eyeing tougher stances on antibiotic misuse.
