The UK’s Royal Society is in talks with the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa to create a fellowship programme for senior researchers on the continent.

The partnership, which is still at the negotiating stage, would involve “substantial amounts of money” said Simon Kay, head of international operations and partnerships at the Wellcome Trust.

The Wellcome Trust is a British biomedical research charity and one of the backers of AESA, a Nairobi-based grant management platform that looks after several internationally funded African research programmes.
