African ministers promise affordable medicines by 2030

African health ministers have thrown their support behind a plan to help countries improve access to medicines and vaccines.

The ministers endorsed a World Health Organization roadmap for access during a meeting in Dakar, Senegal, on 30 August. The plan will be implemented in the period  2019-2030.

The plan focuses on 10 areas related to medicine access, including fair pricing policies, regulatory systems, governance, increasing healthcare capacity, appropriate prescription and dispensing, and preparedness for emergencies such as infectious disease outbreaks.
