The Nigeria-based International Institute for Tropical Agriculture has won the latest Africa Food Prize, the first organisation to do so rather than an individual.
The US$100,000 prize was awarded to IITA on 7 September during the Africa Green Revolution Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.
“IITA stood out to us for its steadfast and inspiring commitment to a research agenda that aligns with both our African traditions as well as the evolving needs of African farmers and consumers for the latest advances [in] food production,” said Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian president and chair of the prize committee.
