Rwanda bans traditional medicine advertising
Rwanda’s health ministry will sanction any media houses that print advertisements for traditional or herbal medicine, The East African reports. The purpose is to stop the proliferation of untested medical products. “Most of the traditional healers offer unrealistic medical advice and products; some say they can even cure cancer and hundreds of other diseases yet their products have never been tested in any laboratory. We have an obligation to protect the public against such misleading information,” Malick Kayumba, spokesman of the government-owned Rwanda Biomedical Center, told the newspaper.
