Ethiopian women to benefit from fellowship scheme

Female staff at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research in Addis Ababa will benefit from an extension of a pan-African fellowships programme that trains women in research and leadership skills.

The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development programme is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, among others. The programme’s fellowships last for two years, and include mentorship and travel support.

However, AWARD bills the Ethiopian extension of the programme as a ‘mini-AWARD’, which will benefit 20 scientists for eight months. It’s a “contracted version of its flagship initiative”, it said in a statement on 25 February.
