Programme launched to foster science-based policymaking

A continental initiative has been established with the aim of boosting African governments’ use of scientific evidence in policymaking.

The Evidence Leaders in Africa programme was launched on 25 April. It is a collaboration between the Kenya-based African Academy of Sciences and the African Institute for Policy Development, a non-profit institute which has offices in Kenya and Malawi.

The ELA programme will support AAS fellows, grant winners and affiliate bodies to increase uptake of science in government policies in their countries. It will provide support for workshops, awards for academics who have enhanced evidence-based decision making, and a conference to bring together researchers and policymakers in East and West Africa.
