Water research funding fails to flow to needy countries

Training and funding for water-related research is woefully scarce in the regions of the world that face the greatest uncertainty and risk to their water supplies, two reports show.

The reports, both published on 29 May, were produced by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health based at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

One is a bibliometric analysis of global water research between 2012 and 2017, the other maps the availability of water-related university degrees worldwide. Both identify serious gaps in water research and training conducted by, and in, developing countries.
