World research integrity conference comes to Africa

Cape Town, in South Africa, will host the seventh World Conference on Research Integrity in 2021. The decision was announced this week at the close of the sixth conference, hosted by China in Hong Kong. The proposal for Cape Town to host the meeting was fronted by the African Research Integrity Network and the University of Cape Town. ARIN’s co-chair, Francis Kombe, who attended the Hong Kong meeting, told Research Africa that he hoped holding the conference in Africa would boost African participation. In China, African participation was low, and not just from a lack of interest or travel funding—one delegate from Nigeria was unable to secure a visa in time to travel.
