US foundation backs African river data research
The JRS Biodiversity Foundation has awarded US$375,000 for biodiversity data research to institutions in East and Southern Africa, it announced on 19 September. The largest of the three grants, $284,000, goes to a South African non-profit organisation, the Association for Water and Rural Development. It will develop a freshwater analysis system in the Kruger National Park’s catchment area. Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Malawi receives US$37,000 for a project to focus on fisheries data, especially about endangered species. Tanzania’s Sokoine University of Agriculture gets US$54,000 to improve data on freshwater biodiversity in the Rufiji river catchment area.
