Presidential culture champions to hasten return of artefacts to Africa

Diplomatic dozen to promote and safeguard African arts, culture and heritage

Twelve African heads of state have agreed to champion the return of cultural artefacts to Africa, as part of a continental push to promote African heritage. 

The 12—named earlier this month at the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia—include the presidents of Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The diplomatic dozen will act as a ‘council of peers’ to safeguard African arts, culture and heritage.
